v0.1.0
Twin 0.1.0 Release · Windows 10 & 11 (64-bit)

Google Drive sync. Lean, fast, and completely transparent.

Created to replace the opaque black box of cloud storage. Packed with more features than Google Drive for Desktop, backed by an ultra-lightweight Rust engine that consumes under 30 MB RAM with zero background resource hogging.

28 MB Idle RAM · Zero Electron Bloat · Auto CPU Governor · Open Source
28 MB
Idle RAM usage (vs 600 MB in Google Drive)
0.01%
Background CPU load with idle sleep state
16 MiB
Resumable chunked uploads with Blake3 hashing
8.4 MB
Total installer package vs ~350 MB official client

Engineered to eliminate sync frustration.

Built around three simple promises: total transparency, deeper Drive controls, and zero system overhead.

01 Transparency

Process Visibility

Know exactly what is uploading at every second. Real byte-accurate progress bars, calculated EMA speeds, and plain diagnostic logs—no black-box spinners or mystery stalls.

Byte Accurate · Smoothed EMA Speed
02 Features

Extended Drive Freedom

Map arbitrary folders on any drive without virtual G: restrictions. Browse past file revisions with instant rollback, restore trash, and auto-export Google Docs to offline .docx and .xlsx.

Arbitrary Pairs · Revision Vault
03 Efficiency

Ultra-Lightweight Rust

Operates at ~28 MB memory using native Rust Tokio. An autonomous hardware governor automatically pauses transfers if CPU exceeds 70% or battery drops below 20%.

~28 MB RAM · Auto CPU Governor

Autonomous Hardware Resource Governor

Twin steps aside whenever your computer is under load, keeping your fans silent and laptop responsive.

ACTIVE SUPERVISION LOOP

Zero impact on gaming, rendering, or compiling

Twin integrates directly with Windows system APIs. When you launch a game or compile a project, Twin pauses background uploads to yield 100% CPU cycles to your foreground tasks.

CPU High Load Pause
Pauses when host CPU exceeds limit for 5s
> 70% CPU
Cooldown Auto-Resume
Resumes queued tasks once CPU cools down
< 50% CPU
Low Battery Guard
Suspends transfers when unplugged on low power
< 20% Battery

Designed for power users, developers, and professionals.

Every subsystem is purpose-built to give you complete sovereignty over your data and local storage.

Multi-Pair Arbitrary Routing

Bind any SSD or external folder directly to any Google Drive folder with Upload, Mirror, or Two-way policies.

Debounced Priority Queue

Rapid file changes are debounced by 3 seconds, with exponential retry backoffs (1s up to 5 min) for failed transfers.

16 MiB Resumable Chunks

Interrupted uploads resume instantly without re-uploading bytes. Large files download over 4 parallel streams.

Windows Credential Security

OAuth 2.0 PKCE loopback authentication with hardware-backed encryption in Windows Credential Manager.

Google Workspace Exporter

Automatically exports online Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides into standard .docx, .xlsx, and .pptx files.

GitHub Sync-State Backup

Serializes sync metadata and pushes it to your private GitHub repo every 30 minutes for instant disaster recovery.

Twin vs. Google Drive for Desktop

Compare engineering choices and everyday desktop performance side-by-side.

Got questions? We have answers.

Google Drive for Desktop bundles Python runtimes, Chromium web instances, and virtual file system drivers that stay in memory constantly, burning 450 MB to 1.2 GB of RAM. Twin is compiled into native machine code using Rust and Tauri 2, utilizing Windows native components only when UI is displayed. Idle in the tray, it uses just ~28 MB RAM.
Yes. Unlike Google Drive which isolates your files inside a virtual G: drive letter or a single folder tree, Twin allows you to configure unlimited folder pairs anywhere across your drives (C:, D:, external storage, etc.), with individual sync modes (Upload, Mirror, or Two-way) per pair.
Twin monitors host CPU load and battery state using native Windows system calls. If total system CPU usage exceeds 70% for 5 seconds (e.g., during video encoding or gaming), Twin automatically pauses sync transfers to yield resources to your foreground apps, resuming when CPU drops below 50%. It also suspends syncing when laptop battery drops below 20% on unplugged state.
Yes. Authentication uses official OAuth 2.0 with PKCE loopback. All tokens are encrypted and stored in the native Windows Credential Manager. No passwords or OAuth tokens are ever written in plaintext files.
